New Matt and Pat Show: Don’t Listen

April 12th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Matt and Pat Show - (Comments Off on New Matt and Pat Show: Don’t Listen)

We have up for your listening pleasure a new episode of the Matt and Pat Show. This week we have as our special guest my friend Shad Meshad, who is the founder of the National Veterans Foundation and author of the book ‘Captain For Dark Mornings”.

What Shad has to share about the plight of our veterans is both informative and distressing, for he really tells it like it is what our men and women who server this country are left to deal with on their own after going through the horrors of war and all its brutal ramifications.

45 Lessons Of Life

April 11th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Reflections - (Comments Off on 45 Lessons Of Life)

I came across this little story about Regina Brett, who is 90 years old where she shares some of the wisdom she gained over the course of her life. Simple, wonderful pearls of wisdom that I know I need to better incorporate within my life.

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short – enjoy it.
4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye, but don’t worry, God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It’s never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ‘In five years, will this matter?’
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative of dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you need.
42. The best is yet to come…
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.”

Christ Is Risen

Christ is Risen!

Alleluia!

I woke up today after a very long, but awesome day yesterday walking around WonderCon with my buddy Matt, interviewing for our Matt and Pat show, all sorts of talented artists, writers, passionate comic and film lovers, as well as just some really neat and quirky people!

Afterwards, we had a sit down dinner with the 501st Legion members, who spent the day dressed up in their various Star Wars film accurate costumes performing their duties to raise money for charity. It was the type of meal which all meals should be, filled with good friends, amusing and lively conversation and most importantly truly a sense of sharing a meal together.

This morning, after a sound sleep, I awoke whereby my immediate thought was to say a simple prayer of gratitude to Christ and acknowledge the unique and significant meaning of this day of His resurrection.

It is by way of His resurrection that our faith in Christ rests. If there is no truth to the resurrection of Christ, then the faith in Him is all for naught. This singular moment some two thousand years ago marks the pinnacle and epoch of what the purpose and defining meaning of Jesus. He overcome sin and death, whereby He reconciles us to the Father.

If we were to take some time to reflect upon the full scope and magnitude of what He has accomplished by His life, death and resurrection, I content that it certainly would change not only our perceptions of life, but how we act towards those we come in contact with on a daily basis.

At some point in time, we too will take part within His resurrection as well. The depth and mystery of the love that God has for us and the awesomeness of that reality by way of what the resurrection truly means, I find to be overwhelmingly, wondrously staggering.

May your Easter be filled with love, peace and also a deep sense of inner joy at the salvation Christ has enacted on our behalf!

Good Friday

March 29th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Reflections - (Comments Off on Good Friday)

Today marks one of the most significant days of the year for me, that of Good Friday. It is upon this day whereby God, who became man, died upon the cross for our salvation. This singular act of history is the summation of what defines love. Love is ultimately sacrificial, for it always proceeds outwards and towards the beloved. We are God’s beloved children, who even though we sin through all manner of degrees of selfishness and pride, He nevertheless lays down His very life for our salvation and freedom.

My hope and prayer for all is that today is one filled with the realization of the great sacrificial act of love that God takes upon Himself for us. May we be humble in our quiet reflections and know that the love God has for each one of us is unending and truly unconditional.

Woofies!

March 26th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Pets - (Comments Off on Woofies!)

Last week, we added a new addition to the family! His is a big, fluffy, bundle of love and goes by the name Bear! With Jake getting up there in age, we thought it would be a good time to get a companion dog for Jake, as well as another dog as to liven things up around here.

Bear, in fact is here next to me as I write this post. One would think that being a ninety pound dog, he would make a certain amount of sound when he walks. I can attest that this is not the case. He is deceptively quiet when he reconnoiters through the house, the only sound heard is by way of his metal dog collar clinking and tingling together. He has not even barked yet, but I bet when he does you will know it!

Bear came to us by way of the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue. They are a wonderful and dedicated volunteer organization with the sole purpose of helping people connect with a Golden Retriever who, for whatever reason needs to find a new, loving home.

If ever a creature is one that gives us a glimpse of the love of God, it is a Golden Retriever, that I am certain of! I would write more, but I must go and take both Jake and Bear out for their morning “walkies”! Trying to walk two ninety pounds brutes of love is quite a feat, let me tell you! Ok, off I go! Woofies!!!!!!

(Here are two pics of Bear and the last one is of Jake waiting for his dinner)

Patrick Is A Genius!

March 20th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Tech - (Comments Off on Patrick Is A Genius!)

Patrick Is a Genius! No, not me, the other Patrick from the across the pond. What did he do that was so awesomely brilliant you ask? Well, it has to do with how this particular web page theme was working, or I should say not working as I had hoped. Simply put, whenever one would “click” upon an image within a post, there should have been a “lightbox” effect, which would allow the image to appear within the middle of the page, within a separate little box. What was happening unfortunately was that the image was showing up upon a new page, separate from the actual post it was originally within.

While I knew that this was an issue that pertained to the distinct theme I had chosen for the look of my blog, I wasn’t quite too sure where the miscommunication was within the actual code so as to fix this little hiccup. After tinkering about, I figured to search out one who might have a much better sense of not only what was going wrong, but how to make it work!

Sounds complicated? Well, for one such as Patrick it was quite easy to comprehend and see just what was going wrong. It turns out it was a Javascript issue within the code of the particular theme. He directed me over to fetch a plug in that he knew would allow for all the parts to play nicely, which would allow for the desired “lightbox” effect to take place! Voila!!! What a simple solution indeed! Finally, the images within each post have the desired “lightbox” effect! Three cheers for Patrick!

So a massive thank you is in order for Patrick, who not only so graciously responded to my inquiry as to why I was faced with this little technical hiccup, but provided a most elegant solution to solve the sites snag. Go check out his personal blog site and get a glimpse into the different grovetastic projects (like Atomic Duck) he has delved into, it really is some very cool stuff indeed!

No More Grape Nuts For Me!

March 19th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Health - (Comments Off on No More Grape Nuts For Me!)

With all of the information that has been coming out within the last few years in terms of foods that are genetically altered, or sprayed with completely toxic pesticides, I have slowly begun over the last year or so to no longer buy as best I can foods that are GMO.

For example, this morning I was going to eat some of my beloved Grape Nuts for breakfast. As I was pulling the cereal box out, I had a thought to go search the web to see what, if any information related to Grape Nuts being a GMO food source.

Well, sure enough, I found out that it is indeed pretty toxic! You can read all about one such post from Yahoo Health. Bastards! I can’t even begin to count how many times over the years I have enjoyed my Grape Nuts with a bit of honey mixed in for added yumminess!

I found what looks like to be a good site that deals with the whole GMO issue, called The Non-GMO Project. I sent away for an information packet, so I will relay back any interesting information they might send my way. I will also be writing a rather scathing letter to the food company Post, expressing my indignation and dare I say trust, that the food I have been eating is in reality toxic.

When I go shopping this week at the grocery store, I will be looking around for a healthy, non GMO replacement!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

March 17th, 2013 | Posted by pmpax in Holiday - (Comments Off on Happy St. Patrick’s Day)

Today is my patron saints day, so I especially want to wish everyone a most blessed and prayerful St. Patrick’s Day!

One of his most famous conversions he was responsible for which was historically recored deals with two daughters of the then Irish monarch, Ethne and Fedelm. They went out to the local fountain to bath, when they came upon St. Patrick and some of his companions who were praying there. The meeting between the two daughters and St. Patrick is recored as follows:

Astonished at the vision that presented itself to them, the royal maidens cried out: “Who are ye, and whence do ye come? Are ye phantoms, or fairies, or friendly mortals?” St. Patrick said to them: “It were better you would adore and worship the one true God, whom we announce to you, than that you would satisfy your curiosity by such vain questions.” And then Ethne broke forth into the questions:

“Who is God?”
“And where is God?”
“Where is His dwelling?”
“Has He sons and daughters?”
“Is He rich in silver and gold?”
“Is He everlasting? is He beautiful?”
“Are His daughters dear and lovely to the men of this world?”
“Is He on the heavens or on earth?”
“In the sea, in rivers, in mountains, in valleys?”
“Make Him known to us. How is He to be seen?”
“How is He to be loved? How is He to be found?”
“Is it in youth or is it in old age that He may be found?”

But St. Patrick, filled with the Holy Ghost, made answer:

“God, whom we announce to you, is the Ruler of all things.”
“The God of heaven and earth, of the sea and the rivers.”
“The God of the sun, and the moon, and all the stars.”
“The God of the high mountains and of the low-lying valleys.”
“The God who is above heaven, and in heaven, and under heaven.”
“His dwelling is in heaven and earth, and the sea, and all therein.”
“He gives breath to all.”
“He gives life to all.”
“He is over all.”
“He upholds all.”
“He gives light to the sun.”
“He imparts splendour to the moon.”
“He has made wells in the dry land, and islands in the ocean.”
“He has appointed the stars to serve the greater lights.”
“His Son is co-eternal and co-equal with Himself.”
“The Son is not younger than the Father.”
“And the Father is not older than the Son.”
“And the Holy Ghost proceeds from them.”
“The Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost are undivided.”
“But I desire by Faith to unite you to the Heavenly King, as you are daughters of an earthly king.”

The maidens, as if with one voice and one heart, said: “Teach us most carefully how we may believe in the Heavenly King; show us how we may behold Him face to face, and we will do whatsoever you shall say to us.”
